  14. Pacific Advanced Media Studio in conjunction with Labyrinth Music has announced
  15. the release and immediate availability of the first Australian Audio CD
  16. incorporating CD ROM Interactive Notes. The album is by Australian musician and
  17. composer Guy Delandro.
  18. Hailing it as potentially as big a breakthrough in the communication between an
  19. artist and his audience as the video clip, Pacific Advanced Media Studio has
  20. released what is believed to be the worlds first Popular Music CD containing an
  21. Interactive Video program.
  22. The Pools of Reflection CD contains the normal audio or music section as well
  23. as a CD ROM section for use on personal computers equipped with a CD Drive.
  24. The Interactive Notes section uses Apple's Quicktime video technology to give
  25. the listener more details about the album, the performers and the individual
  26. tracks. Still photos, which enhance the atmosphere of the tracks, are played in
  27. synchronisation with samples of the music. As well Guy Delandro is shown in a
  28. number of video clips providing explanation of the music on the CD. Sheet music
  29. for the 9 tracks on the CD is displayed and the MIDI files for the music are
  30. stored on the CD for enthusiasts to download to their MIDI equipped computers
  31. to learn from and appreciate.
  32. Pacific Advanced Media Studio's Director of Creative Services, Mike Fronzek
  33. says "The Pools of Reflection CD is at the front of a worldwide trend to
  34. explore the convergence of popular music with the interactivity of today's
  35. advanced personal computers. David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Todd Rundgren and
  36. Billy Idol have all released CD's in the past month which also use computers to
  37. achieve varying degrees of interactivity.
  38. The Pools of Reflection CD is being sold for the same recommended retail price
  39. as other popular music albums so the additional material adds substantial value
  40. to those purchasers who have access to a Macintosh and a CD ROM drive. A
  41. combined Windows and Macintosh version of the CD will ship before Christmas
  42. 1993.
  43. The technology used to develop the Pools of Reflection title is designed to be
  44. used as a shell for other albums. This would allow the Pacific Advanced Media
  45. Studio to quickly and cost effectively produce Interactive Notes for other
  46. artists once supplied with stills, videos and audio tracks.  A typical cost for
  47. this would be less than $20,000.
  48. Pacific Advanced Media Studio (PAMS) was founded in November 1992  as a
  49. integrated production house for digital media works. In founding the company,
  50. it was recognized that to successfully produce cost effective digital titles,
  51. it would be necessary to create a production facility which was built on an
  52. ethic of cross discipline collaboration. Its staff have extensive experience in
  53. marketing, media law, authoring, sound and video production as well as formal
  54. computer programming skills. The company has a wide network of technical
